Shot in 35mm, High-def, DV and IR, this stunningly complex 3.5-hour piece was directed by Bill Viola.
The film provided the backdrop for the opera Tristan and Isolde, and was projected on a 35-foot screen behind the live singers. It featured underwater performances by professionals from Cirque de Soliel’s “EAU” . All of the amazing effects, including fire, water, and flying through the air were created and shot live, with no digital effects or enhancements.
Created to kick off the 2006 season at the Paris Opera, it then toured the world, including special performances at Disney Hall with the LA Philharmonic, and Lincoln Center in NYC.
